China XO – Leela Palace

What’s better than eating Chinese food? Eating Chinese food with a sea view. Though China XO is heavier on your pocket, an occasional visit for mind-blowing Chinese food with exceptional service and magnificent ambiance is definitely worth it. The Seafood Soup is mild, healthy, simmered goodness in a bowl. The traditional Peking Duck is golden brown, crispy and flavorful served with thin mandarin style pancakes, the dish overall is incredible. Other equally mouth-watering dishes to have at ChinaXO are Teriyaki Tiger Prawns and the Char Siew Pao Dim sums.

Golden Dragon – Taj Coromandel

Golden Dragon serves some of the best Chinese food in Chennai. They are known for their patient and polite service, impeccable food and most of all their consistency. Most of their dishes are top-notch and authentic so if you spot your favorites then go for it. My personal favorites are the crispy fried Lotus Stem, Chow Mein Noodles and their stunning Litchi and Basil seed Ice Cream.

The ambience is great, the aroma of Asian food gets you hungry very quickly and when you finally taste their mind-blowing food, you feel like you’re in heaven. Yeah, no kidding, it’s that good! Mainland China

Mainland China used to be a go-to place for good Chinese food but nowadays they aren’t very consistent though. Some of the usual orders are great but if you are in an experimental mood, it might be a hit or a miss. If you are one of their regulars though, you know by now that their dim-sums are not that great but their chicken entrees and their Batter Fried Jumbo prawns are truly delicious.

Mamagoto

Mamagoto has very creative art work; you tend to feel inspired once you step in. Their Peking Dumplings were little pockets of heaven exploding brilliant flavors, I loved their Soho Pan Fried Noodle bowl as well, it was colorfully presented with a lot of vegetables and the flavors weren’t too over-powering. Most of the waiters at Mamagoto have enough understanding of the menu so they make good suggestions and their portions are quite filling too. If you haven’t been there yet, mark your calendars and get ready for some amazing food.

Noodle Bar

The aroma of charred chili and garlic make their Burnt Chili Noodles ridiculously good. Their Black Pepper Cottage Cheese isn’t exactly an authentic Chinese dish but you overlook it because of its insanely delicious flavors. If you’re catching a movie at Phoenix or just shopping with friends, Noodle Bar will definitely surprise you with its quality.

Orange Wok

Orange Wok is quite a small place, but the space has been used well, nevertheless. For someone who doesn’t quite enjoy papayas, I loved their Raw Papaya salad; it was bursting with exciting flavours. Their vibrant Dragon Chicken was a treat to the taste buds and it goes well with Szechuan fried rice. Don’t miss their Chicken Taipei either, it was quite enjoyable.

Kim Ling

Kim Ling is a meat eater’s heaven! They have a wide spread of Indo-Chinese sea food and poultry options. Their Crackling Chicken was delicious and their Beef Bell Pepper was interesting too. But on any day the clear winner on their menu is the Kung Pao Chicken which goes very well with the rice and noodle varieties they offer.
Must Haves: Kung Pao Chicken, Crackling Chicken, and Beef Bell Pepper.

Flower Drum

Flower Drum has a well-designed and elaborate vegetarian Chinese menu. Finally the OCD a lot of vegetarians have with the Veg and Non-Veg mix up can be put to rest with a visit to this place. I could have anything in this world with their Manchurian sauce, it’s utterly delicious. Another favorite of mine is their aromatic and mildly flavored Thai Basil Fried Rice. Overall, if you are a vegetarian who loves Chinese, this is your heaven.
