New York is what comes to many when you hear ‘Cheesecake’. But this wonderful dessert is said to have originated in ancient Greece. The Greeks considered cheesecake to be a good source of energy, and served it to athletes during the first Olympic Games. They also used Cheesecakes as wedding cakes. The simple ingredients of flour, wheat, honey and cheese were formed into a cake and baked. The Greeks passed on this wonderful recipe to other countries, with different countries adopting different variations. Cream cheese was an American addition to the cake, while Italians use ricotta cheese and Germans use cottage cheese; but the main ingredients- cheese, wheat and a sweetener remains the same.

Most modern day cheesecakes use the uncooked cream cheese filling with different flavors to make it more interesting.
