Brownie Heaven – A Bite Of Paradise In Chennai!


Until  today I was under the impression that brownies are only for chocolate lovers. Then I met Nishant Vijayakumar, a young entrepreneur, cricket enthusiast and gifted chef.  This 25-year old is already on his way to take the city by storm with unique flavors, through his brand new outlet ‘Brownie Heaven’.

As a teenager, Nishant travelled all over India, representing the State in Under 17 and Under 19 categories in Cricket and at the same time, he made sure to explore the food scenes in different cities. With a dream of creating something different and bringing the international culinary standards to his hometown, Nishant gave up a promising career in Cricket and pursued Hotel Management at the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal. However, the two years plus Kitchen Management Training Programme at the ITC group of hotels laid the foundation to his successful journey so far. “I was just waiting for the right time to leave and I thought why wait more when I can just leave now,” says Nishant about his decision on quitting ITC and the birth Brownie Heaven.

Brownie Heaven was originally established through a Facebook page in 2013 before beginning his training with ITC. It became fully operational in June 2015, bagging rave reviews and selling over 2000kgs of brownies, in just about 3 months. The first outlet which is less than a week old is stationed at Royapettah, and serves more than 20 different flavors of brownies (Wow!). They have 6 rotating flavors every week, and the others can be made to order with just a prior notice of 2 hours. In addition to these, there are unique concepts created by the young chef, which is guaranteed to be a therapy to your soul.

Breaking the stereotypes, Brownie Heaven offers new and exciting varieties of brownies which you’ve only dreamed about. Make your coffee dreams come true by trying out the ‘filter kaapi’ brownies, which is assured to remind you about the good old Madras. Or the ‘Cheesecake Brownies’ for all the cheesecake lovers out there. The ‘Chilli Chocolate’ brownies will create an explosion in your brain (in a good way I promise) with a feeble aftertaste of chillies that hits you slow and steady. Some of the other popular flavours include the roasted nuts, peanut butter, white chocolate, salted caramel fudge, peppermint and red velvet! However the Chef’s personal favourites are the ‘Peanut Butter Oreo’ and ‘Jamaican with Roasted nuts’.

Besides these individual flavours they also have assorted varieties like the ‘Brownie Banoffee’ which is brownie with sliced bananas, whipped cream, chocolate shavings and toffee sauce, ‘Heaven on Earth’ featuring Brownie Soil, Fruit mélange and Citrus Mascarpone Quenelle. You can even satisfy that adventure junkie in you by trying out the ‘Brownie Junkie’ which is Brownie with crushed potato chips and ice cream.

“I wanted to create something that’s known for its texture and quality. When you think of brownies, my outlet should come to your mind first and I want Chennai to be known for it,” says Nishant about what makes his brownies different from the others. The Chef focuses on developing product-centric brands and this is just the beginning of his journey, as more exciting surprises are on its way for us, according to Nishant.
